The balance between hearty and refined dishes suggests a kitchen that values technique without sacrificing comfort. According to recent reviews, the consistency is generally reliable, though occasional fluctuations in seasoning hint at the human element behind the kitchen’s artistry. We were delighted to find Taberna Elisa right next door to our apartment for a week in Madrid. The atmosphere is authentic, the food exceptional and the staff friendly. What more can you ask for.

I would say this should be a go to in Madrid. The food was excellent & affordable. We loved the appetizer mushroom w quail egg and the prawns were so yummy. The octopus was sooooo delish. We sat at the newer restaurant (more spacious) and if you walk 10 steps downhill, you will find the original restaurant (a bit warmer) but you will see it's very authentic!

Old school tapas bar. Quite well received with locals in the restaurant. No English menu and the staff don’t speak English either - quite authentic place! Interesting tapas menu and food were quite tasty as well. The main service staff was quite aggressive but friendly at the same time go and you know what I mean. Recommended!

One of my favourite places to bring friends to in Madrid! Must tries: callos, patatas bravas, chipirones (fried baby squid), croquetas, stuffed mushrooms. The beer is inexpensive too. The staff is great, the vibe is really nice, and the surrounding area is great for a post-dinner walk.

Very cozy tapas bar that seem to be getting more popular with tourists. We enjoyed sitting on the original side, and overflow is sent to the other side. Food is really good, and innovative. We also really enjoyed the decor. The servers don't speak English but we managed to get by with a little Spanish and some gestured and google translate. Recommend the patatas bravas (red sauce is good), secreto joselito, and the stuffed mushrooms. The snails tasted over cooked, because it was a bit mushy instead of chewy. Everything is very rich, but fortunately they serve you bread. The free chicharrón (fried crispy pork rinds) were also delicious.

Excellent Spanish tapas. So good we went out of our way to make it our last meal before leaving Madrid!

The only reason for 4 stars is the food. The beef tripe stew was so flavorful and it melts in your mouth. And the shrimp was also fresh and had a pleasant spicy kick. The service though was a totally different story. We waited for almost 1 hour for the food and had to grab plates and utensils ourselves. There was only 1 waiter in the entire place and obviously he couldn’t be attentive. We were not in a hurry and just wrapping up the day, but I can imagine the experience end up being much worse for others.
